Surgical Access in Cardiothoracic Surgery
Take your understanding of cardiothoracic surgical anatomy beyond textbooks and lectures. Surgical Access in Cardiothoracic Surgery is an intensive, practical workshop designed to give participants the opportunity to learn essential surgical approaches directly on cadavers.
This unique hands-on experience will cover access to the mediastinum through conventional and mini sternotomy, as well as anterior, axillary, and posterolateral thoracotomy approaches. Participants will also gain practical exposure to thoracoabdominal incisions and techniques for arterial and venous cannulation in cardiopulmonary bypass, including axillary, carotid, and femoral approaches.
Whether you are a trainee seeking to build confidence or a surgeon looking to refine your operative skills, this workshop provides a valuable opportunity to translate anatomical knowledge into practical surgical expertise in a controlled cadaveric setting.
Join us on Saturday, 19 September 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
Experience the anatomy! Practise the approach! Strengthen your surgical skills!
