The history of the Association of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeons of Sri Lanka (ACTSSL) is a testament to the dedication and passion of cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeons in the country to advance their specialty and improve patient care.

The primary mission of ACTSL is to promote excellence in cardiothoracic and thoracic surgery through education, research, and professional development. The association is committed to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes in Sri Lanka by fostering collaboration among its members and staying abreast of the latest advancements in the field.

President's Message

Dear distinguished members of our academic community,

I am delighted to add this message on the occasion of the major overhaul of the ACTSSL website.

This was the result of many months of conceptualism, planning, experimentation and hard work by a group of dedicated and passionate ACTSSL members and a team of gifted web designers who have gone beyond their call of duty to fulfill our many requests. I am deeply honoured to be to be associated with this  astounding technological endeavor.

 

The new website, no doubt will signal more effective call to action, motivate and give direction to a a group of processionals who are committed to advancing the field of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic surgery in Sri Lanka. ACTSSL serves as a beacon of excellence, bringing together the finest minds in the field to collaborate, innovate,  educate and mentor surgeons in training and junior doctors in our field.

The website redesign marks a significant milestone in our mission to foster excellence in clinical practice, patient care, research, and education. Through this platform, we aim to provide valuable resources, educational materials, and networking opportunities for our members.

Furthermore, our website will also serve as a window to showcase  both nationally and internationally, the remarkable work being done by our members, be it  impactful audits, groundbreaking research or innovative surgical techniques,

As we embark on this new chapter, I urge all members to actively engage with our website, contribute your expertise, and utilize the resources available to enhance your practice and professional development. Dr. Muditha N Lansakara is a highly esteemed cardiothoracic surgeon renowned for his exceptional skills and extensive experience in the field. After completing his medical education with honors from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 1998, Dr. Lansakara embarked on a journey of advanced training and specialization in cardiothoracic surgery. His illustrious career has seen him undertake intensive training at renowned institutions worldwide. From 2005 to 2008, he honed his craft at the Teaching Hospital in Karapitiya, Galle, Sri Lanka. Subsequently, he furthered his expertise at the Regional Hospital in Wellington, New Zealand, followed by a tenure at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital in the United Kingdom .

 

Throughout his career, Dr. Lansakara has exhibited a deep commitment to education and training, serving as a postgraduate trainer in cardiothoracic surgery since 2017. His dedication to advancing the field is evident through his active involvement in research, presentations, and publications, both nationally and internationally. At present he is working as a non paid resource person to train surgeons in Ozaki procedure Nationally and Internationally .

 

Dr. Lansakara's areas of expertise encompass warfarin-free valve surgery, with a special focus on mitral valve repair and the Ozaki Procedure, as well as off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. His contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous presentations at prestigious conferences, including the World Cardiothoracic Meeting and the European Society for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Society.

 

In addition to his clinical and academic pursuits, Dr. Lansakara is poised to lead the Sri Lanka Association of Cardiothoracic and Thoracic Surgeons as its President, a testament to his leadership qualities and dedication to advancing the standards of cardiothoracic surgery in Sri Lanka. Driven by a passion for innovation, education, and patient care, Dr. Muditha N Lansakara continues to inspire and make a significant impact in the global cardiothoracic surgery community.
